On September 23, 1972, President Ferdinand Marcos publicly issued Proclamation 1081, more known as Martial Law, which ignited what is arguably the darkest chapter in Philippine History.
It has been over 40 years since this happened, which is why most of those who have reached adulthood today only know of Martial Law through the history books. Not us though. We are the generation that saw the injustice. We experienced the pain and torture. We survived–every rifle butt to our face, every volt that surged through our bodies, and every bullet that downed our friends and family. We proved our mettle through the scars in our bodies and our souls.
These are our stories. Stories that seem to be slowly fading into obscurity as evidenced by the fact that members of the Marcos clan are still in government. No matter how old or senile we become, we will never forget. And we hope you will be reminded, too, of how we were at the mercy of a diabolical dictator and his equally notorious family.
